“A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES MUST BEGIN WITH A SINGLE STEP.” – Lao Tzu
LIFE CHANGES, QUESTIONS, STRESSES
As you well know, your life changes, questions, stresses and adventures are inevitable. Whether they make you happy or sad, they all require effort.
Sometimes you need someone to help you through them. When a number of them occur together, life can get particularly complicated and stressful.
You expect many transitions. They are a natural part of life. It takes little time to adjust. You sometimes deal with these situations with minimal effort. At other times a change is particularly disruptive and counseling may make a difference in how you adjust.
Counseling is usually not lengthy in those situations. There are the other times when your world is rocked to the core. Therapy is especially helpful in those situations, helping you come to terms with an alternate reality you did not expect.
QUESTIONS AT MID-LIFE ARE COMMON
A positive reframe on what you may be feeling can be found in an article on Psychology Today (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/wander-woman/201806/are-you-having-mid-life-awakening) as it defines a mid-life quest as a mid-life awakening.
You have been busy with establishing yourself in a career or role in life. Now you begin to wonder just who you are anyway – not as defined by “what” you have done but “who” you are as as a whole person.
Your search for internal meaning becomes ever more important to you. “Who am I, really? What will I leave as a legacy for who I am?” “What do I wish to make of this stage of my life?” These are important questions. They definitely signify a life transition and a way you see your life changing.
There are times when you need to have a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, help to find your way, someone to process with. There is relief when you share these struggles with a counselor who, without judgment, helps you through these difficult passages.
