ABOUT KALEIDOSCOPE COUNSELING – GINNY KREEFT

MY STORY

About Kaleidoscope Counseling - Ginny Kreeft - Counseling for WomenIf I was seeking out a therapist (as I have in the past; as any good therapist would), I would be looking for someone who is personable, warm, respectful, trustworthy, empathetic and has a sense of humor.

Life experience comes in handy too.

Personal and professional boundaries are important and, of course, so is their training.

I expect you have the same kind of expectations of me. So here goes…..

After raising and launching a family and losing my husband to a terminal illness, I attended the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work to study for my master’s degree in social work with the goal of establishing a private practice. Good choice!

My most valuable lessons, however, have been my life experiences. They equip me with empathy, intuition, creativity, respect, wisdom, and all that good stuff we need to get along in life.

If I were looking for a therapist, I’d like to know a little bit about that person. And so, I have shared a little bit about me with you. I hope it helps you.

In my spare time, I enjoy luxuriating in the beauty of all Colorado has to offer, traveling anywhere, reading, friendships, solitude, and a good glass of wine.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • At Kaleidoscope Counseling I provide individual and relationship therapy using a systemic mind-body-spirit approach.
  • I hold a MSW (Master of Social Work) from the University of Denver, Denver, CO.
  • I am licensed in the state of Colorado as a clinical social worker (LCSW).
  • At Denver Family Institute my post-graduate work granted me a certification in marriage and family therapy (CMFT).
  • My training and advanced certification in hypnotherapy (ACHT) is from The Wellness Institute, Issaquah, WA. (www.wellness-institute.org)
  • I have received training in Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples counseling.
  • I have been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma.
  • My BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in sociology is from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI.

My experience as a therapist is:

  • in private practice
  • as a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) to servicemen and women and their families
  • counseling and social work experience in hospital settings (outpatient and inpatient), churches, para-church organizations, and community mental health.

My approach to therapy is from a systemic point of view, meaning you live in community and family and have connections with those people.

I have decided to focus more on helping women with trauma, abuse, grief, and life’s challenges and changes, especially at midlife.

The mind-body-spirit point of view is also significant in counseling and I use it with you.

I use an integrated approach to individual therapy using psychodynamic, existential, experiential, humanistic, attachment based, and when requested by the client, Christian based approaches.

Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy is very healing and I use it when a client is agreeable to it and would benefit from it.
